Level 3 BTEC Award in Education and Training (formerly PTLLS)

The Pearson Level 3 BTEC Award in Education and Training is an introductory knowledge-based teaching qualification that has been developed to give you the opportunity to:

  • Develop knowledge related to teaching and learning
  • Develop skills in teaching and learning
  • Achieve a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification
  • Develop your own personal growth and engagement in teaching and learning

Achieving the Level 3 Award in Education and Training will provide sufficient evidence that you have obtained the necessary skills and knowledge to prepare, plan, deliver and evaluate basic teaching and learning sessions in a variety of teaching or training contexts.

It is often the minimum requirement for people who want to start teaching in post-16 education. The Level 3 Award in Education and Training is also the first step towards gaining fully qualified teacher training status.

At the end of the unit you will have developed:

  • Knowledge of the role, and its responsibilities in relation to teaching
  • The ability to demonstrate appropriate teaching and learning approaches
  • Skills in session planning
  • Skills to deliver sessions which motivate learners and which are inclusive
  • The ability to use different types of assessment methods

Our courses
QC Training Limited deliver 'accredited' Teacher Training courses over a 4 week period, (not 26 weeks).

Our course is split into 2 parts (Part One: 3-days, Part Two: 1-day follow-up micro-teach and assessment). This is conducted four weeks later, allowing time for candidates to prepare training materials accordingly.

Assessment
Candidates will be assessed through ongoing assignments that will take place throughout the programme and upon completion of a successful microteach session.

Microteach session
One of the most important assignments candidates complete on the Level 3 Award in Education and Training course is the microteach session, which is where each member of the class teaches a short sample lesson to the group.

This lesson can be on any subject; most people prefer to choose the subject which they are eventually going to teach after the course.

The trainer guides everybody through exactly what needs doing in terms of preparing and planning this lesson.

Microteaching is an important chance for candidates to have to teach in a supportive and risk free environment, gaining vital skills and confidence by practical application of what they have learned.
